First of all, thank you for even being willing to share and take the time to put together a list of tutorials! <33 I don’t think I’d ever be able to make such crisp and high quality gifs as you but I’d love to learn where to start! Thank you again! 🥹 <3

Aww anon of course!! I'm always happy to see people getting into gifmaking, especially in our fandom!

As promised here is my list of tutorials. These were crucial for me when I was first starting out, but there are so many tutorials that you can find by just searching "gif tutorial". The gif maker community does a great job of sharing information.

What I used when first starting out:

This tutorial is the one I used to help me set up mpv on my computer. This is the best tutorial on how to set up mpv and how to use it to make gifs.

This tutorial by cal-kestis was the first I used in learning how to make gifs, it was an excellent guide and really helped me learn how to make gifs.

The blog Usergif is probably the best resource for all things gif. It has literally every tutorial known to man, from basic gif making to complex blending, you name it they've got it. It's my go to blog when I want to learn something. This is the link to the directory for all of their tutorials, I use it so much I actually have this page bookmarked

The following tutorials I looked at after I learned how to make gifs and was trying to see what other cool things I could do:

redbelles - full gifmaking tutorial, from getting footage to coloring to posting, really great tutorial. This is a 10/10 guide for learning how to gif, I put it down here because I didn't come across it until after I had learned how to gif.

thorodinsson - gifmaking tutorial, this focuses more on cropping, sharpening, and basic coloring techniques. Its really good for beginners.

haleths - sharpening tutorial, this was key to helping me when I was first starting

magnusedom - coloring tutorial, I used this a lot when I was first learning how to color. Does a great job of explaining how you can use curve layers to really change the coloring of a scene. Once I learned that it really changed how I colored

usergif - coloring tutorial, I used this a lot when I was first trying to learn how to do more complex coloring manipulation

aubrey-plaza - channel mixer tutorial, this does a really great job of explaining how to use the channel mixer. It does take time to figure it out but its super powerful once you do

And that concludes my list. There are definitely more tutorials that I have used, but the ones I've mentioned are without a doubt the ones that have been key in learning how to gif. If you have any questions feel free to send another ask or you can dm me directly :)

It's still Wednesday over here and I really wanted to get a post in today. I spent my day corralling elementary schoolers on a field trip to the Natural History Museum and it took a lot out of me. I started posting Beautiful Roaring Scream last week and a new chapter will be going up on Friday. In the meantime, here's some Simon POV:

Once we’ve made it inside Baz’s room, I briefly take it in from the corner of my eye and suddenly it has my full attention.

“Why is your room so much bigger than mine?!” I squawk. Where my room can barely fit a couch and bed in the living space, Baz has an actual living room with a sofa and chairs and a separate bedroom.

“Hush, let's not argue over size.” He's back to kissing me as he manoeuvres us towards the shower. It’s a good distraction.

I’ve managed to also get a few rough sketches done as well!

I learned how to spin yarn last weekend and it's taken a lot of my attention this week. It's so satisfying to see my consistency improve every time I pick it up. I'm not sure if I'll knit something with this yarn, I might just keep it for posterity. A long term goal would be to one day spin a sweater quantity of yarn, but I'm a ways off from that.

I also made progress on my scrappy sweater and my nephew's cardigan. And Littlest Purple seems to have remembered that I started and never finished a cardigan for her, so I'll have to get to it when my queue clears up a bit.

I know. You’ve got it all planned out. Your Zombieland fantasy. Your Walking Dead cosplay lifestyle. You think when it all goes to hell, you'll become Daryl Dixon overnight with a crossbow, fingerless gloves, and a stone-cold thousand-yard stare while a horde of the undead moans outside your fortified Bass Pro Shop.

You think the power grid collapses, the government falls, and you're out here eating canned beans off a bayonet while fighting off literal corpses in a trench coat made of riot gear.

Sounds cute.

But here’s the truth: Real humans? Are good at killing. Like, insanely good at killing.

If zombies were real?

They wouldn't overrun us. We'd annihilate them so fast it’d make a wildlife conservationist cry.

🔪 REALITY CHECK #1: HUMANS ARE SERIAL KILLERS WITH A CONSCIENCE We’ve survived wolves, tigers, plagues, warlords, each other, and countless extinction events.

We built religions, bombs, and air fryers. We survived the Ice Age without pants. You think a moaning meth-head with half a jaw is going to end civilization?

Please.

If anything, humans would treat zombies like pests.

Neighborhood watch groups would turn into hunting parties. Suburbs would form kill leagues. TikTok would be flooded with #ZombTok tutorials for machete sharpening and viral trends like “How I cleared my HOA of 47 rotters in under 2 minutes.”

🔫 REALITY CHECK #2: MODERN MILITARY + 72 HOURS = GENOCIDE Let’s do the math.

Even at modest mobilization, the U.S. military has:

1.2 million active-duty troops

393 million civilian-owned firearms

6,500+ main battle tanks

Drones that can see your heat signature from space

And bunker-crushing MOABs that can turn an entire infected city block into glass.

You're telling me slow, unarmed, rotting pedestrians are going to outmaneuver trained sociopaths with night vision and air support?

Zombies wouldn’t even make it to Day 4.

🧠 REALITY CHECK #3: ZOMBIES HAVE SHIT TACTICS Let’s break down zombie strategy:

Moan

Walk toward sound

Bite if lucky

That’s it.

No stealth. No camouflage. No coordinated attacks. Just moist gurgling in traffic.

In real life, they’d be sniped, burned, tased, trapped, dumped into pits, run over, and exploited for sport within the first 48 hours.

We’d have entire YouTube channels dedicated to zombie obliteration ASMR. Merch drops. Fan cams. Season passes.

They wouldn't be "winning." They’d be streamed in 4K and monetized to death.

🏹 REALITY CHECK #4: REDNECKS, MILITIA DADS, AND DIY PSYCHOS WOULD GET BORED Every town’s got at least one guy who owns 19 guns “for raccoons,” built a bunker “just in case,” and jerks off to Joe Rogan podcasts.

You really think he’s not ready?

That dude would have the entire county cleared by breakfast and still be asking:

“So uh… when does the real war start?”

And don’t even get me started on rural communities. They’d treat the apocalypse like a church barbecue with kill scores.

🧬 OBSCURE, HORRIFYINGLY TRUE FACTS:

Genghis Khan’s forces wiped out 11% of the global population with horses, bows, and zero antibiotics.

Ants have been known to build bridges out of their dead. Humans? We built civilizations out of stacked skulls.

The average human has enough jaw strength to bite off a finger— but won’t, because society told us not to. Take away the rules? You think we won't bite back?

☣️ THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE YOU ENVISION = THE SHORTEST MASSACRE IN HISTORY Zombies wouldn’t last long enough for a plot twist. They’d be rounded up like cattle, studied, and pit-fought for betting apps.

There’d be sponsorship deals. Limited-edition zombie sneakers. Fashion lines called “Rot Couture.”

Half of Hollywood would star in zombie hunting reality shows before the midterms. Netflix would greenlight 13 documentaries and a prequel drama.

You’d be scrolling Twitter in a recliner while the last pack of infected gets bulldozed by a retired oil tycoon on Twitch.

🩸 SO WHY DO WE LOVE ZOMBIES? Because they give us permission to fantasize about clean violence. No guilt. No consequences. Just mowing down monsters that used to be your boss.

But in real life? You wouldn't be scared. You’d be desensitized by lunch.

The real horror isn't the undead. It's how efficient we are at erasing them.

🧃 TL;DR?

You want a zombie apocalypse because deep down, you want an excuse to unleash the part of yourself society made you leash.

But sorry to burst your fantasy: it wouldn’t be survival. It would be slaughter.

And humans? We’d be too good at it.

So good that by Week Two, we’d be lobbying Congress to put zombies on an endangered species list.

The chains on your wrists rattle as you move. Your butt is starting to hurt from the chair you're sitting on. A double mirror is on one side of the wall. You stare at the reflection. You're disheveled, but you're fine. The door opens, and someone in a black cloak walks into the room. His face is hidden by a mask. It is completely white and shows no facial features. He sits down across from you, his arms clasped in front of him.

“Now, let us begin.”

His voice is human-sounding, so you cross "unknown beast from beyond" off your list. He lifts a stack of papers and sets them on the desk. You can’t see what is written there.

“Who are you?” you ask.

“I am part of the story police. I’m going to ask you some questions. Answer them to the best of your ability.”

“Why? What do you want?”

“Simply what’s best for the author.”

“Author? What author?”

“It doesn’t matter. Let’s start.”

(This is a character interview. You sit down with your character in your head and talk to them. This is a good tactic to flesh out your characters. The scenario was just to give your character context. You can use it or not. Enjoy)

Here is our complete guide to curling a heat safe wig!

We specifically figured out this method worked best when styling this wig for my level 3 Imogen Temult cosplay. She's from campaign 3 of Critical Role. There are many other methods to curl wigs, but this is the one that got the best hold and our desired look on this particular wig! Of course, then I decided to cosplay Imogen at level 13 first and her hair is totally different so this wig is going in storage but at least we got to make a useful tutorial first.

We already have a video version of this tutorial up on our Tiktok and Youtube that we will move over to Tumblr, but honestly I struggle The Most with learning from video tutorials. I prefer things written out so we wanted to make this sort of tutorial as well for accessibility!

What We Use:

Wig: Pastel Purple Wavy Lace Front Synthetic Wig LF5110 from Wig Is Fashion. It technically comes with a curl but we straightened and recurled it differently. Whatever wig you get, just make sure you check that it's heat safe before attempting this!

Silicone Spray: Mane 'n Tail Detangler. Yes, this is technically for horses, but listen, it works SO WELL on synthetic wigs. It keeps it from getting all static-y and tangled. We've only ever used this brand but it works really well so we're def sticking with it.

Setting Spray: Schwarzkopf Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray. This makes sure the curls you spent hours making actually hold!

Crimper: SixRiver Ceramic Waver Hair Tool with 4-in-1 Flat Crimping Iron Plates. This comes with four ceramic crimping plates and Nic uses the one with the "most wiggles" on the lowest setting (320). You can probably use any crimper that goes low enough. Crimp it fast, you aren't holding it like with curls.

Curling Iron: Conair 1 Inch Curling Iron. We use this on "19", whatever that means because it doesn't actually have temperatures. Any curling iron with low enough heat settings will do, you might need to play with settings to make sure you don't melt the hair. Test it on the bottom of the lowest layer of hair where you could cut it off if you melt it. As with curls on human hair, different barrel widths will give you wildly different curl looks.

Teaser Brush & Large Tooth Comb: Honestly these probably came with one of our first hair cutting or wig styling kits so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Apparently the teaser brush is Revlon branded.

You can blacklist tags, and you can also blacklist post content. This means your online tumblr experience will not show you the stuff you don't want to see. It is not infallible, however it does make for a much nicer time on tumblr if you know how to use the functions as they have been designed.

For example if you follow my main, you could blacklist "to do list" and you wouldn't see that post nearly every day (ooh! Exciting, has she crossed 'eating breakfast' off her to do list???). If you are here, you can blacklist "real life ramblings" and you won't see the (admittedly rare) posts I make in reference to my RL. I make a habit of pointing these out every so often with a "<- for your black list" tag.

here's my Mass Effect Legendary Edition modlist

so i'm pretty picky about mods! i don't like anything too immersion breaking, or anything that looks like it's from a totally different game, but it's still a pretty sizable list. i added a little ★ to the mods that are must-haves for me

Mass Effect 1

QoL

★ LE1 Community Patch — bug fixes! ★ MELLO — restores the lighting from the Original Trilogy ★ LE1 Alternative Bodies — makes the female human/asari body proportions look a little better Keepers Finders — marks the keepers on the map! Mission Timings — delays the Council's message about Virmire until Therum, Feros and Noveria have been completed Remove Screen Shake A Little Help From My Friends — your friends on the Normandy help you complete your collection assignments so you don't have to spend time driving around on empty planets Galaxy Map Trackers — adds UNC assignments to the galaxy map Charted Worlds — marks mineral deposits on world maps Replenish Grenades — lets you restock your grenades on the Normandy Remove Intro Window Reflection — i just think it looks bad lol XP Rescale — increases the amount of XP you get so you can actually reach max level in a single playthrough

Immersion

★ LE1 Diversification Project — huge overhaul of the NPC population, adds way more NPCs to hub areas, more female aliens, tons of cut/bugged lines restored. little warning that it adds a puzzle to activating the generator on Ilos which is annoying, but i think it's worth it for everything else it adds ★ Saren Stages — gives Saren different looks for the different stages of his transformation Streamlined Weapon Loadouts — characters now only have the weapons they're proficient in equipped Morlan's Iconic Armor Store — adds the characters' iconic starting armours to Morlan's shop, scaled to the player's level Combat Communication — restores a bunch of combat voicelines ★ New Casuals for Femshep — casual outfits for Femshep (note: i use an older version of the mod that doesn't use the Appearance Modification Menu because i don't wanna deal with all that) Pistols Remade — makes the pistols a little smaller ★ Saren Boss Encounters — optional changes to Saren's boss fights, i use the enhanced version that reduces the amount of geth and restores some cut dialogue Dr. Heart Experiments — changes Saleon's test subjects from Thorian Creepers to their own unique model ★ Mako Squadmate Banter — plays the elevator banter while you're driving around in the Mako

Cheating

Skip Minigames No Skill Check Required — removes the decryption/electronics requirements on loot Infinite Sprint ★ No Armor Skill Required — equip whatever armour you want, no skill required. useful if you're like me and you love the look of the heavy Onyx armour but you don't play a class that can wear it Easier Feros Persuasion Check — the persuasion check with Ethan Jeong is too high to beat early on, this mod lowers it

Mass Effect 2

★ Immersive Citizens — adds a whole bunch of NPCs to hub areas! makes the world feel livelier Weapons in Cutscenes — Shepard and squadmates will use the weapons they have equipped in cutscenes instead of the default weapons Jack Power Tweak — swaps Jack's Pull ability with Singularity Pistols Remade — makes pistols smaller Wrex Armour Consistency — gives Wrex his usual armour back Kelly and Kenson Restoration — gives them back the OT version of their hair, because i think the LE version of it is ugly Cerberus Ladies Wear Cerberus — gives female Cerberus crew members the correct uniforms. has an option to restore Kelly's hair as well, but i prefer to use the other mod for that because it also fixes the lighting when talking to her ★ Oriana looks like Miranda's Twin — what it says on the tin. i prefer to use the version with the vanilla hair Platonic Post-Horizon Emails — a platonic version of the email Ashley/Kaidan send to a romanced Shepard after Horizon Legion Femshep N7 Shoulder Guard — gives Legion Femshep's shoulder piece, also a LE3 version

Customization

★ Tank Top Casuals — tank top outfits for Shepard, also a version for LE3 Undamaged Armor for Garrus — replaces Garrus' DLC armour. i use the option that makes it look like an undamaged version of his loyalty armour ★ Samara's New Armor — i usually don't like to replace the companion's iconic armour, no matter how impractical it is, but Samara is an exception because i think her vanilla look is really ugly 💀 and this mod makes her look like a space paladin and it's great Garrus with No Visor — like i said i don't like to change much, so all i do is remove the visor for his casual/romance look and keep everything else vanilla No Headgear for Squadmates — removes the headgear from the DLC armours ★ ME2 Miranda Hair to LE — i never liked how Miranda's hair looked in ME3. this mod gives her a higher quality version of her original ME2 hair in LE2 & 3

Cheating

★ Skip Minigames Trigger Buttons — timed missions only trigger when you press a button next to your terminal. i like this one because it lets me delay the Arrival dlc until after the suicide mission Infinite Fuel M-44 Battle Tank — tired of the Hammerhead getting ripped apart like wet tissue paper? me too ★ One Probe All Resources — collect all resources from a planet with one probe Instant Shadow Broker Rewards

(note: some of them send too early, but it's nbd) ★ Oriana looks like Miranda's Twin ★ Anderson Conversation Restored — restores cut content to Anderson's final scene Dreams Remade — changes Shepard's dream sequences. ymmv with this one, it's not totally seamless and personally i think it can be a little overwrought, but i like the emphasis on Shepard's choices instead of on the child ★ Immersive Thessia — overhauls the mission Priority: Thessia ★ Take Earth Back — overhauls Priority: Earth Liara Mourns the Dead — restores a conversation with Liara after the Citadel Coup that previously only triggered if the Virmire Survivor was killed Expanded Galaxy Mod — this mod adds a lot and i personally only use the Core + Normandy version of it, everything else makes the game feel bloated imo. i like to use it to set the DLCs to trigger at specific times, for example you get the most out of the Citadel DLC if you do it after Priority: Horizon

Customization

★ Iconic Femshep Hair Fix Garrus with No Visor — again, i just use the option that removes his visor from his casual/romance outfit ★ Samara's New Armour T-shirt and Leggings Miranda's Alternate Outfits — i use the option that changes her dress in the Citadel DLC Remastered Kelly — the version that fixes her hair in LE3 Ashley Consistency Project — this mod conflicts with the Alternative Squadmate Bodies mod, which i prefer, so i don't actually use it, but it's great! de-glams Ashley

All Bonus Powers — makes all bonus powers available in the medbay for free ★ No Weapon Weight Improved Scanning — scan an entire system in one go. no more jumping out of your skin when you alert the reapers! ★ No Movement Penalty During Rannoch Weapon Class Upgrade
